Younger folks, or those who didn't know him might find it boring, but I have listened to
it several times and learned a lot about our ancestors. It's about
1:09 long.
Several months ago, I was visiting with Gene Boykin when he mentioned a
book that contained some Poland / Jones Ancestry information. It took
me a while but I got the book, Paddling the Wild Neches.
It is an excellent book by Richard M. Donovan. There were several
pages about the Jones/Poland ancestry, and Mr. Donovan mentioned he owned
the cabin once owned by Amanda Nowlin Jones. Amanda late in life
married a Jesse A Stephens, and Mr. Donovan wrote that she came to Texas as Amanda Stephens.
Records I've located, including her marriage certificates to Jonathan Jones
in 1848 (Tyler County) and Jesse Stevens in Angelina County make me 99% certain
she was Amanda Nowlin, daughter of John Nowlin and Milla Teal Nowlin. Amanda and Jonathan are the
parents of Wyatt Teal Jones. father of Mittie Augusta Jones Barge, Bessie
Carrie Jones Watkins, Jesse Jones Bregenzer Reed, Arthur Franklin Jones,
James Jackson Jones, Maggie Jones Powell, Willie Belle Jones, Virgie Irene
Jones Pittman, Benny Lee Jones Boykin, Tennie L Nora Jones, and Henry Teal
Jones.
Mr. Donovan was kind enough to send me the original tape he made in 1978 and
I had it digitally re-mastered.
It is a 109MB file and can't be sent by email, but if anyone can't download
the above .wma file and still wants it, I can
send it another way. Let me know. The audio has a "no longer
used" terms, but one has to remember Mr. Jones was born long ago. I
apologize for it, but it was just a part of his time. I know for a
fact he was a good man. Due to the size of the file, I will only leave it
active until around Jan 1, 2012. There are also some parts of the
original tape that was demagnetized and therefore unusable.
If you are so inclined, a donation may be made to the Texas Conservation
Alliance, PO Box 822554, Dallas, TX 75382 in Mr. Donovan's honor.

of number 1, let me know, email me or call me and I'll send it to you. Bob
Boykin scanned and fully digitized the photo in detail suitable for a 16X20
print.
1. Wyatt Teal and Lucretia Annie Poland Jones ca. late 1902 or early
1903. James Jackson (Jim) Jones is the boy on the top right.
4. I'm still trying to identify this photo. If anyone has any
clue, let me know.
5. Memorial of James Jackson Jones, Zavalla Cemetery, Texas
This is the only marker for Lucretia Annie Poland Jones. I have paid
about $300.00 so for over the last 3 or 4 years toward getting her a monument to
East Texas Monument Works in Lufkin. They estimated it will be about
$800.00 to have a decent memorial installed.
