“More Than A
Destination”
My arm didn’t
have to be twisted when asked to write a
review about 542 Caplen Shores Circle.
Having stayed at this ocean front address
before, I welcome any excuse to return. The
only problem was describing how a locale can
create such a warm and welcoming ambiance.
In the next few paragraphs I hope my
descriptions will help you view this
treasure as I do.
A
thirty-year nautical collection is
tastefully displayed throughout the house.
It is truly unique. Oil paintings and
prints of the seaside and ships grace the
walls. Every nook is an adventure. There
are glass treasures filled with sand
dollars, shark’s teeth, seabeans and other
finds from previous walks along the shore.
You'll find early 19th Century
authentic copper and brass diving helmets
plus museum quality wooden model ships,
including The USS Constitution, The HMS
Victory, The San Felipe and The Soleil
Royal, each incredibly detailed and taking
hundreds of man hours to build. And, of
course, many ship’s clocks.
The
relaxed, informal mood is further enhanced
by a fully functional, antique Rowe juke box
standing ready with over a hundred 45’s
ready to delight any musical taste, from the
50s to today's hits.
Picture
perfect sunrises and sunsets are yours from
this entertainment oriented home.
Its
informal floor plan boasts nearly 3,000
square feet including four private bedrooms
with their own full baths. Up the winding
staircase, the additional sleeping quarters
feature a large open concept room with 4
full size beds, plus a separate bunk room
with ten built-in bunks. The house
comfortably sleeps twenty-eight, and that’s
not on couches.
The
five-ton air conditioner keeps the
temperature on the Mexican tile floors cool
to the toes. Find yourself curled up in
front of the wood-burning fireplace with
your favorite book. And, at bedtime close
the electric shutters, blocking out all
sights and sounds. Or, beach lovers can
leave them open and let the waves softly
sing them to sleep. 542 Caplen
Shores also features the only "Mosquito
Boss" fully automated Chrysanthemum based
mosquito misting system installed in a guest
property on the Bolivar Peninsula.
There are
televisions in each room with a large screen
high definition plasma TV in the living room
complete with HD satellite receiver, DVR,
DVD and VCR, plus a fully THX certified
Onkyo Audio Receiver and 6 Definitive
Surround Sound Speakers for a true home
theatre experience. There is a "magic"
Harmony 1000 Remote Control to manage all the
audio/video toys. The master bedroom has a
large screen plasma HDTV as well, plus there
is a 37" LCD HDTV in each of the other
downstairs guest rooms.
There is a separate zone audio feed for both
the deck and the walkover landing. However,
with the 100 plus melodies floating from the
old Rowe juke box no one seems to have an
inclination for electronic
intrusion.
In every
bathroom there are open oak cabinets,
purposefully without doors. All
Nautica towels,
linens, even bathroom tissue and Kleenex are
in full view. There is never a strangeness
or an uncomfortable search for anything.
Now to the
kitchen, one of the most welcoming rooms in
the house. It was obviously built for the
gourmet. Hanging utensils line the wall.
There is even a spoodle. For those of us
without culinary vocabularies, that’s a
combination ladle and spoon. Adequate pots,
pans and casserole dishes is an
understatement, any size or dimension. All
modern appliances including a trash
compactor, and a 32" LCD TV to watch the
Food Channel while you prepare your gourmet
meal. A nautical motif patterned china
with service for thirty, shelved in the
glass see-through cabinets.
Off the
kitchen is a large laundry room with full
size washer and dryer complete with laundry
detergent, and a half-bath if the other four
should be occupied.
In the
garage there is a full size freezer,
Coleman Event Grill, Brinkman barbecue grill and outside shower.
Including the garage there is covered
parking for eight large vehicles.
If you've got your own
helicopter, (or charter one), this residence
has it's own private helipad!
Up on the wrap
around 1,400 square foot deck, watch for
porpoises from the deck chairs, as brown and
white pelicans, blue herons, long-billed
sandpipers and sea gulls fly by. Even the
decks attest to the thought that went into
this home. Some covered and others open for
the sun lover.
Still
need more sleeping capacity? Caplen
Blue, located directly across the
road at 541 Caplen Shores Circle, sleeps
8-14, and is owned by 542 Caplen Shores as
well. You'll get a 10% discount on it, if
you rent both.
This will give
you a total sleeping capacity of up to 44.
Oh, don’t forget your
rod and reel! Bring in red fish, speckled
trout, flounder and an occasional Spanish
Mackeral from the beach right in front of
the house to give a new meaning to the words
“fresh fish.”
For a
company meeting, family gathering or a
romantic getaway, 542 Caplen Shores Circle
is just perfect. This Gulf of Mexico beauty
can be yours for a week or a month, but
beware or like me you’ll never want to
leave.

Thank you so much Dan, my family and I had a wonderful
stay. The house is perfect for a beach vacation, you have done a great job
making it feel like home. You have thought of everything and there was not one
thing we went without. You have spoiled us and we will have a hard time topping
this as a vacation get-away. Even though we did not have nice weather, the house
was comfortable enough that it was still fun. Kevin K. and Sunshine, Taylor,

June 2-8-06 Dan Thank you so much for letting us use this
beautiful home this week. For the past 5 years we have been going to Florida for
our family get-together; however there has been a mutual agreement of all
members of our family that we want to come back here next year, as we have
enjoyed ourselves so much. We have had a wonderful time, weather has been
perfect and the layout of the house is great for a large group. There is only
one problem- the end of the week has arrived much too soon. Thanks again Ava,
Joe W. and family
June 2006 Thank you for a wonderful vacation. We have
enjoyed the house for Several years. We enjoyed the beach and the house
again. Tara, Steve K. and family
The A. family of 7, B. family of 3 K. family of 4 and 1
beautifully behaved pup and 2 puppies thoroughly lived and loved each minute at
the house, (except the packing to go part). WE ate out, we ate in and ate
on the balcony, fried, waffled, birthday cake and drank quite a bit. We
watched our kids grow up here from newborn to age 3, celebrating each year with
unfortunately sunrises and sunsets. The technical and electronic advances
and upkeep of the house has been spectacular and the last year. Thank you.
Why do 6 nights in Bolivar pass / go by so much more quickly than Dallas.
Katy B. A.
June 21, 2006. On behalf of the B. family in the
previous page, I can’t thank you enough for opening up your beautiful house to
our family. There are not many places that can accommodate such a large and
continuously growing family, but this house does. We all have enjoyed the space,
the accommodations, the beach- everything. I have loved watching my nieces and
nephews each summer. They have so enjoyed being able to all play together. We
call it the Family Slumber Party. Thank you for allowing my family to come
together each year and enjoy what we love most- a beautiful setting, a relaxing
trip and each other. Only here could we have all of those things, Sincerely,
Elizabeth B.
July 13, 2006 On behalf of Barbara R. and family we

was not cooperating too well- but we got the vows said outside to a rainbow
appearing just as they were pronounced husband and wife. Thanks for sharing this
wonderful house. God Bless you and yours. The L. Family – from Kerrville,
Dallas, Mc Allen and Houston
November 10-13-2006 Worship on Sunday, sitting on the

December 18, 2006 A wonderful 3 days are too short of the
H. family of 26 for our early Christmas. Our four daughters and their
husbands and a passel of grand and great grand children had an outstanding time,
even competing with the FOG. A beautiful home and so close to the water. This
was set up and arrangements made by our 3rd daughter and her husband,
Donny and Becky P. of Nederland, Texas. A.C.H. and family
Jan.18-07 Dan, Teresa We have had the most wonderful week
we have had in about 20 years. Thank you so much for allowing us to spend time
in your wonderful home. Love Always and Forever, Tony & Peggy
June 14, 2007 Dan,
Just wanted to let you know what a great time we had at your beach house.
The weather cooperated, the dolphins came by several days in a row, the
family reunion was a blast! My son found about an 8 inch lightning whelk shell
that was perfectly intact as well as a perfectly intact sand dollar.
We listened to your Phil Collins CD, the tracks you recommended were exactly as
you promised: unforgettable. My sister and I found a beautiful stained
glass window hanging that said, "Welcome. My sand castle is your sand castle."
We felt that it summed up how you made us feel about staying in your beach
house. We left it in your kitchen window as a thank you for such a great time.
I do hope you will have us back. We would love to return. Thanks so much
again for a very memorable family reunion spot. T. W.
